Healthy board consisting of a single, very slightly convex plank of 3mm, with a chalk preparation on verso. Painting is in a good state of condition with a dirty varnish.
Claude Hoin was nominated "peintre de Monsieur", meaning official artist for the King's brother, in 1782. He is recognized for his portraits executed in pastel, those in oil are more rare. This particular work perhaps dates from the 1780s.
