Bronze monkey-gold Hanuman. Northern India, 14th-16th Century


Small bronze statuette representing Monkey-Gold Hanuman with joined hands in the adoration gesture (anjali mudrā). Hanuman is the son of the wind god Vayu. He is a monkey god, head commander of the monkey army, allied with King Rama, heros for Ramayana during the battle against King Ravana of Lanka who had kidnapped Sita. He is gifted with a tremendous strength.
