Camille ROQUEPLAN (Mallemort, 1800/03 - Paris, 1855)
Mary Magdalene in Desert
Oil laid down on cardboard
Our painting, very typical of Roqueplan’s manner, is the first reflection of Magdalene in Desert exhibited at the Salon of 1838, under no. 1541, known today because of a lithograph by Menut-Adolphe.
We would like to thank Marie Watteau for confirming the authenticity of this painting after examining via digital photo and proposed to date the work before 1835.
Condition report : The painting is under a fairly light and uneven varnish. Without a doubt it was recently cleaned. We note small and few restorations scattered about.
