Case for dueling pistols, circa 1840


Burrwood case for dueling pistols.

Case: Brass accessories and hinges (accidents on plate). Lid inlaid with brass cartouche. Lined with green velvet, presenting one pair of dueling pistols.

Pair of pistols: Canted, striped and fluted barrels decorated with blued scrollwork. Each pistol is gilt-numbered on lug. Flat-bodied plates and rounded hammer (broken hammer crest, missing one) engraved with foliaged scrollwork, grey finishing. Right finger trigger rest and iron buttcaps decoration as same. Fine carved walnut stock tips.

With its accessories: mallet, patch box, ramrod cleaner and lead dipper, oil can. Missing bullet mold, gun powder flask, and screwdriver for bolt.

Circa 1840. Liege Fabrication.

Height case: 8 cm (3 in.) - Width case: 46,5 cm (18-1/4 in.) - Depth case: 25 cm (9-3/4 in.).
Length of barrels: 26 cm (10-1/4 in.).

Fairly good condition. Major oxidization on barrels.
