Lionello alias Nello LEVY was born in 1921 in Viareggio in Tuscany region, Italy. His father and main teacher Moses LEVY (1885-1968) was a famous painter in this Italian region where he was particularly recognized for his lively beach and village alley scenes. The LEVY family had to flee Italy in 1935 due to discriminations from the fascist regime and moved to Tunisia. Nello LEVY was passionate for Tunisian landscapes illuminated by the sun, sea, ports, boats, beaches and wrecks. After Tunisia’s Independence, Nello LEVY chose to reside in France and moved to the Parisian region definitively in 1962.
