Our Lady of Kazan

“Our Lady of Kazan” (Virgin of Kazan) is of all Mary representations was the mostly widely replicated in Russia after the original dated 1579.
Her name comes from the city where the original is conserved. This type of icon is a hodighitria variant where the difference lies with the depiction to shoulders and her head slightly titled to her Son. Christ has a rigorous frontality and blesses with his right hand. Our icon is called an “family icon” because 4 Russian saints are depicted on borders (Phéodot, Stephen, John and Alexandra)
