Pair of silver candlesticks, 18th Century


Pair of molten and chiseled silver candlesticks and their nozzles atop lobed base with coat of arms, decoration with moulding of eggs and darts pattern, threading and clasps. Knopped stem is chiseled with bellflower swags and large shells. Ornated with twisted ribbing on base.

Paris 1742 and 1743 (letters B and C)

Master silversmith: Alexis LOIR, master status in 1733

Marked on base (in two different places) on socket interior and nozzles.

Height without nozzles: 25,5 cm (10 in.)

Weight with nozzles: 1580 gr. (3-1/2 lbs.)

Coat of arms “azur with bend accosted by two mounts, each with six hillhocks, all in or” are those for the de Monti family.
